Victoria's Doljanchi/birthday celebration.....

Now that the on line show is under way I can take a short break to catch up with all the other happenings in my life.

Last year we welcomed into our family a very special little girl.    My granddaughter Victoria celebrated her first birthday on March 17th.    In Korea a child's Doljanchi is an important milestone and an opportunity to wish long life and good fortune to the baby.

I have lots of pictures to share, this is Victoria dressed in her colourful dol-bok looking a little worried.

The highlight of the day was a ceremony where she sat at a table with a selection of objects such as thread, books, brushes, ink, money and a bow!   It is believed that the item selected will foretell a child's future.   Brush and book signifies a scholar, money or rice is wealth, food a government official and the bow a military commander.   The thread represents a long life.  Victoria very wisely selected the book followed by the brush and pens but also found the spool of thread very interesting!   Food was not included in her options but who needs more government officials anyway.  Think Austin was a little disappointed that the bow did not feature in her selection at all.
The special birthday cake was something new for Victoria, she has never eaten anything sweet and a little piece of cake was very well received.
The head dress which she absolutely refused to have on her head!
A proud Mom and Dad with the birthday girl.

A final picture of a little girl who has brought so much joy into our lives, cannot believe that just a year ago she was a tiny baby and she is now walking everywhere. Still has to grow some hair though.

The Teddy Bear's Tea Party on line show is almost at an end with lots of bears finding new homes, thank you to all our special collectors and also for the votes for the Collector's Choice Award.    Megan is still smiling!
