Another long journey............

We are now back in Brittany and after nursing Bronwen and Austin in London I am now suffering from the dreaded 'flu. As usual I have a major cough and it is a mission looking through my medicines to find the necessaries. I usually make the most amazing cough and cold remedy using apple juice and various spices including grated root ginger. Well I can find root ginger in London but not so far in France. Strange but hopefully I will find some eventually, cough mixture does not seem as good with ground dried ginger.
The drive home was long and tiring. We only left London late in the morning and decided to stay overnight in Folkstone as it is almost a 6 hour drive from Calais to Kerfourn the little village were we are now living. The hotel was interesting, sort of a Fawlty Towers kind of hotel full of elderly people on a coach tour. However it was excellent value for money and the breakfast was just what we needed to start the day. We caught an earlier channel tunnel train arriving in France mid morning. The long drive seemed to take forever especially as I was rapidly feeling quite awful. Our previous trip in this direction had been later in the day and partly in the dark. So we did miss some of the scenery. France is obviously full of the most amazing cathedrals and churches in every little village and town. I have long wanted to visit Mont Saint-Michel which is this amazing city built on an island just off the coast of Brittany. We were delighted to see it in the distance on the later stages of our trip. Must make the effort to drive there and visit. I have 'borrowed' a picture from the internet in case any of don't know what it looks like. From our vantage point it looked like a fantasy city somewhere in the distance.The picture above is of Mont Saint- Michel. The cathedral was created originally sometime in 708AD and has been rebuilt and extended over the centuries and is designated a French National Monument.
Still looking for the cable for my digital camera as I have some amazing pictures to share, hopefully it will turn up soon.
The weather in France is considerably colder than in the UK, but today was a warm sunny day. However, the kitties are still not allowed outside, much to their disgust, we are planning to 'let' them out next week in an experiment to see how they cope. There is a family of cats down the road, hope they will all get on reasonably well together.
Spring officially starts tomorrow so it will be a time to get working in the garden here, hope to grow some vegetables and flowers as it is barren garden with lots of old trees but no flowers.
The house is warming up nicely with the fire drying out the cold stone walls, it does take a while to dry washing 'tho. Miss Bronwen who is on her own in London, she has applied for several jobs, hope something comes up soon for her as she is not a person who likes having nothing to do.
