Let it snow.........................

Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful.  ~Norman Vincent Peale

A busy week and for this child of Africa a different kind of Christmas.
Where to begin....... having registered with an agency as a temp and having heard nothing for months, I have suddenly been found. My first assignment ended after only one day as mentioned in my previous blog but I was then asked to help out at a charity call centre! Long hours from 1pm to 8.30pm but decided to accept as it does help with finances. Although I have never been rude to call centre souls asking for various donations/selling stuff etc, I must admit to finding these calls tedious. However having worked in this environment I discovered the other side of the story, from the very 'posh' lady who shouted at me for 'disturbing her dinner party' to the dear elderly lady who told me to drive home carefully in the snow ........... and therein lies the rest of my week's excitement.

We had been promised snow for several days and on Thurs it started snowing and by the time I left work to drive home it was well set in. Woke up on Friday morning to a white winter wonderland. Looked out of my bedroom window at this beautiful pristine landscape and realised that the little plastic greenhouse was missing. Rushed downstairs to discover some of my precious plants on the kitchen floor. I had slept through a major snowstorm but my dear daughters had braved the gale force winds. Megan had dismantled the structure and put it in the shed in the very early hours. Bronwen had later let out Max and seen the plants out in the snow and brought some of them inside. The greenhouse was a present for Mervyn who put it together and then said 'well it is not the right time of the year to start planting'! As I have some fragile plants I had carefully stored them in there to protect them from the frost. I now have few plants let and my carefully planted basket of spring bulbs is a haphazard pile of soil.

These are some of the pictures I have taken over the past few days. The snow is still quite deep and the air icy, the weather has caused major disruptions to travellers. Sad at this time of the year as so many people plan holidays or travel home to be with family.

This week has been a disruption to my bear making as I have had to fit various chores in before leaving for work. Fortunately I will only be at the call centre for three days this week and will start a temp half day job as a legal secretary in the New Year. Did manage to stitch a bear for an order and hopefully will get it completed this weekend. Still unpacking boxes and finding things.
Hopefully will manage another blog entry before Christmas but in the meantime, best wishes to all of you wonderful people who take the time to read my scribblings, leave comments and support. Wishing you all a very blessed Christmas.

Christmas - that magic blanket that wraps itself about us, that something so intangible that it is like a fragrance.  It may weave a spell of nostalgia.  Christmas may be a day of feasting, or of prayer, but always it will be a day of remembrance - a day in which we think of everything we have ever loved.  ~Augusta E. Sorry to hear that the greenhouse has had to be dismantled, but it's better than it blowing away. I hope your plants make it! I'm sure the bulbs will be ok, they are very resilient things!

Congratulations on your new job! I hope it works out well for you.

Have a wonderful Christmas, stay warm.

Best wishes, Lynda
