A joyeous event and a family outing .............

A very long overdue blog update but the past few weeks have just flown by with lots of happenings.

The first and most wonderful news is the safe arrival of my new granddaughter   Needless to say her Dad was away on an army exercise and Mom had to be rushed to hospital in an ambulance!  So far she is a placid, contented little girl and big sister Victoria,  whilst a little put out by the whole event,  has been informing the world in general that she has a new baby sister and her name is Alexandra.  She does enjoy helping with the baby especially at bath time!

We had a family outing in May to celebrate my husband's birthday.   After several days of heavy rain and generally miserable weather his special day dawned with a beautiful clear sky and warm sunshine.  We decided to spend the day at Wimpole Estate.  Now owned by the National Trust,  this beautiful property was restored in the 1930s by the daughter of Rudyard Kipling.  It is a working farm and we had lots of fun viewing all the animals, the beautiful gardens and buildings.

I took a lot of photographs so let's start at the very beginning ..........

Wimphole Hall, Cambridgeshire,  dates back to 1640 and is set in 3,000 acres of park and farmland.  There have been several structural changes over the years.  Unfortunately Fridays is the one day in the week that the Hall is not open so we did not get to view inside.

This is a selection of pictures of various buildings around the estate .......

The Church of St Andrew,  not an imposing structure but inside it is quite different ....

This is the tomb of Thomas Chicheley and family.  The Chicheleys owned the estate for some 250 years undertaking many alterations to the Hall.  However, building costs together with Sir Chicheley's expensive life style, soon forced him to sell Wimpole Hall.

A selection of just a few the many statues around the estate........

Whether or not I would like a more than life size statue of Samson slaying a Philistine in my front garden is debatable but then my garden is pocket handkerchief size!

Still a lot of pictures of the gardens and scenic countryside to share (and some completed bears) but to save picture overload, that will have to wait for another day.

I do hope you will enjoy sharing my visit to this beautiful estate.

I'm looking forward to more photos. Too bad you didn't get to see inside the estate. It looks very impressive.

Congratulations. She looks too sweet! I enjoyed your photos of the estate, thanks! The church looks a little like the one in my last blog post with those beautiful stained glass windows and lovely wooden trimmings.
